With the 405 Grand'Large, the French are launching an independent, well-rounded overall package onto the market. YACHT was the first trade magazine to sail on the new addition to Dufour's touring programme

A spirit of optimism at the innovative shipyard in La Rochelle. The plan is to gradually revise the Grand'Large cruise line, initially only in the smaller and medium-sized segment. The 405 is now making the start. It will replace the 385 Grand'Large, a boat that was launched in spring 2004. However, the new yacht should not be seen as the actual successor to the older model, but rather as a fresh and independent concept that no longer has much in common with Dufour's previous cruisers.

On the contrary. The Dufour 405 is closer to the latest models from the sporty shipyard programme, both visually and conceptually. Designer Umberto Felci and stylist Patrick Roséo modelled the design of the boat on the performance cruisers. The close relationship is particularly evident under sail, where the 405 from Dufour scored points in the test with its exceptionally strong performance.

Nevertheless, the Dufour 405 is primarily intended to be a designated tourer, characterised by a high level of living comfort below deck. The company offers two layout variants for the interior design: a charter version with three cabins or an owner's version with two cabins, but with a large, internally accessible forecastle on the starboard side.
